NAMK:
Among Marianne 123 HP's ofspring, Namk 3859 is well known.
She was Champion at the 1957 Central Inspection. On that occasion she was reviewed by the press as follows: 'beautiful as to type, with a neat head, excellent movements at the trot, a good walk.' In 1958, 1959 and 1960-1963 she was awarded first premiums each year at the central inspections. In harness, she once received a second prize.
Her daughter Namke 5261, model and preferent on the farm of v.d. Velde, Terwispel, turned out very valuable, obtaining first premiums at the Central Inspections as a yearling, two-year old, and three-year old. At the breeding day, she secured 1A in the three-year old category, was designated star and her height was 1.62m.
In 1972, she was granted the model designation and the inspection report read as follows: 'good as to type, forehand good, excellent withers, a bit slender and narrow; walk and trot satisfactory.' At the farm she did all the work that came her way. In the first Friesian four-in hand team she took part in the marathon. With 16 foals in 18 breeding years, she was very productive.
That her progeny has quality was sufficiently evidenced by her children: one model mare, 5 star mares, a provisionally approved son Walter, a son in the second inspection round: consequently two times preferent. Breeding consistency appears from the fact that four daughters have been declared preferent for progeny.
Recent representatives of stallions from this pedigree are the stallions Barteld and Anton. Daphne has an exceptionally good breeding performance with 12 foals, in 12 breeding years. These foals developed into Olchaa model, IBOP AA 90, first premiums at Central Inspections; Xandrina, scoring very high in the mares tests and at Central Inspections, including 1B; Tsjerk third inspection round; Carola, Star and at the top in the mare tests. Elsje's descendants brought Ruiter Nijbeets many successes at breeding days and central inspections;in this context we should also mention Ostara's name.
OTHER LINES:
Whita and her descendants including Hanneke Boszorg of Bos, St Anthonis were the highlights of the breeding days in Esbeek and Central Inspections. Thus, the Esbeek 1996 Champion Aukje Boszorg, was a daughter of Hanneke.
In addition, there are the old mare lines of Roorda, Wijtgaard (Pleuntje); Peenstra (Eabeltje); Faber (Lize) and Boersma (Carlien), who could be put on a much broader basis. Very special in this context are the descendants of the prominent performance thorse Stedina. This line has produced the stallions Doeke, Ids, and Jakob. The mare Doet has, via her daughter Mefrou, been much in evidence the past few years. The latter is the mother of Baukje (1A Blauwhuis 1995); Eke (1B Central Inspection 1996 and youth Champion) and a first premium foal Blauwhuis 1996. Mefrou obtained an IBOP 89A and won the best performing showhorse award at the breeding day and the Central Inspection. All in all, a very impressive picture.

MARIANNE 123 AND DANILO'S MARIANNE II 165 H
The mother of Marianne 123 and Danilo's Marianne II 165 H was the brown Friesian mare Adri, born 14 March, 1921, F. President 123, M. Ontje 1181 F, MF Alva 113, bred by M.J. Jansma of Haskerdikjen. In 1921 the board of the F.P.S decided that brown mares no longer qualified for registration. Mr Jansma was rather put out by this and decided to take part in competitions with the mare Adri before the gig and with success, winning several prizes. On 12 September 1925 Adri was offered for sale in the Friesch Landbouwblad: 'Surplus Sale - 4 year oldFfriesian mare, obedient, and with extra fine gaits, awarded a first prize as a showhorse'.
Sjoerd Doedes Boersma bought her. A grandson of Sjoerd Doedes, former chairman of the association 'Het Friese Vierspan (Friesian Four-in Hand) characterised her as a high spirited horse, rather large and with rich fetlocks. Her colour was a very dark brown, almost black'.
Sjoerd Doedes used her to breed the mares Marianne 123H, later taken over by his son Jouke Boersma and Danilo's Marianne II 165H, taken over by Jouke Boersma's brother Fetze Boersma.
Marianne 123H was a difficult horse. Before the mower she was always a few steps ahead and never got tired. After a full days work she would still dance home so to speak. Occassionally, Marianne didn't feel like work. Then she had to be lunged for quite some time, before she could be harnessed. Marianne was prolific, being in foal almost every year. Of the colts she produced, Rinze was kept. He was approved and was in service with the Bron brothers of Ureterp. One or two years later Rinze was rejected for being too large!
The fillies Manda and Pleuntje were awarded first premiums and were sold to the Goslinga family, Ypecolsga, and Watze Roorda, Wytgaard respectively. These foals were sold because the Boersma family too were short of money in the years of the economic depression. They fetched high prices varying from Dfl. 400 to Dfl. 500. At the time, an ordinary filly brought in Dfl. 100 to Dfl. 150, while a colt would fetch Dfl. 50 to Dfl. 100.
In 1938 or 1939 Marianne 123H was taken seriously ill and only just survived. However, her illness turned her into a wreck, she could hardly walk because all four legs had been affected by blood poisoning. She was sold to Wietse Peenstra of Bartleheim, who succeeded in getting her in foal, who resulted in Ealbeltsje, among others.
In addition, Marianne 123H was a great showhorse and was ridden at the horse shows by Mr Sjouke Zonneveld of Irnsum or Mr Doekele v.d. Laan of Scharnegtoutum. Jouke or Fetze Boersma would drive her to the showgrounds, even if these were situated in Leeuwarden or Dokkum. Marianne would then be a great deal more manageable, usually winning first or second prize. Her big rival was Klazine of Mr D.W. Hoogterp, Deersum.
Danilo's Marianne II 165H was far easier than her sister. She did have temperament, but was far more pleasant to handle. Fetze Boersma used to talk about her as 'such a dear'. Danilo's Marianne's daughter Stedina had much the same character traits. The farm in Nes o/d Akkrum was later named after her.
On several occasions, Marianne and Danilo's Marianne took part in team competitions, the highlight being the Horse Show in Rijs, where they won first prize.
